As time goes by, our world is becoming more with top news stories to open more innovations in various fields. All of these significant innovations and other expected innovations to come soon made and gave a lot of help for us to have easier and lighter living in this place. Some of the most promising innovation of all time in the field of science is the drugs and medicine which are a great help in adding more time in our life span. These drugs and medicines helped us to cure our diseases.

All of these are angels-sent from above, and these angels are our savior from harm and death. But behind all of these great things about medicine, it also has a lot of concerns that are being studied. Some drugs are not considered legal in the market. In short, illegal drugs. These illegal drugs have negative effects not only in one’s life but also to other people and to the place where he/she live. Illegal drugs were now used for some inhumane doings, and it is very alarming. These illegal drugs can affect and mostly targets the youth which is the hope of the future. One example of that drug is marijuana.

What Is Marijuana?

Cannabis marijuana or marihuana questions concept with a driving road or street in the shape of the pot leaf and a highway sign with a question mark as a metaphor for uncertainty in regards to medical use and legal issues concerning banned substances.

This refers to the Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plant where its leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers are being dried. It contains the THC mind-altering chemicals and other related compounds. In 2015, million of youth aging from 18-25 were reportedly using and inclined with this illegal drug. In the United States, marijuana is the most illicit drug. It mostly targets the youth. According to the survey made by Monitoring the Future, after some consecutive years of increasing marijuana usage, the rates of marijuana usage in the youth most notably the middle and high school students finally got low or dropped. On the other hand, there is a decreasing rate of youth believing that using marijuana is risky.

How to Use Marijuana?

In pipes, water pipes, or hand-made and rolled cigarettes, people smoke marijuana. They also fill the used cigar sticks with dried marijuana to hide it from the people and the authority. Marijuana users can also use vaporizers to avoid inhaling the smoke. Some vaporizers can also be used to take the marijuana extracts instead of the dried ones.

What Are The Negative Effects Of Using Marijuana?

Marijuana is used for some medications, and that is the only positive benefit of it to the people.

Using marijuana irresponsibly might lead to some negative and alarming effects. And worse, death. The most affected body organ is the brain. Marijuana can be the cause of short-term and long-term damage to the brain.

In short term effects, when a person got the smoke of a marijuana, the THC quickly runs from the person’s lungs then next is into the bloodstream. Then, the blood carries the chemicals of the marijuana to the brain and other organs of the body. There is a slower absorbing process of the THC when a person drinks or eats it in. With that, only after 30 minutes up to 1 hour is the time for the effect to come.

THC acts on only specific and some brain cell receptors that only and ordinarily react to chemicals, similar to THC. In regards to a normal function and development of the brain, these chemicals play a vital role.

The parts of the brain containing the highest number of these receptors are over-activated by marijuana which then results in the high feeling. There are also other effects including:

  • Mood swings
  • Difficulty in problem-solving and thinking
  • Impaired body movement
  • Impaired memory
  • Altered sense of time, and
  • Altered senses (like viewing brighter colors than an average person does)

Also, taking high doses of marijuana can also have an effect which includes:

  • Psychosis
  • Hallucinations
  • Delusions

These are only some of the short-term effects brought by marijuana. In case of long-term effects, impaired or weak memory, thinking, and learning functions can be the effect on the users who used to smoke weeds/marijuana for a long time. For example, if a user has been smoking marijuana from his teenage years up to his old age, his/her brain functioning is considered damaged and impaired.

A study conducted in New Zealand by researchers from Duke University shows that if a person who started using and smoking marijuana for an extended period is profoundly affected. Loss of IQ points was recorded, and lots of mental functioning and abilities were damaged.

In some aspects, marijuana also affects. One of those is the effects in the Physical Aspect of a human which includes:

  • Increased heart rate. This can also trigger the chance of heart attack, hard time in breathing, asthma, and many more.
  • Problems in child growth during and after pregnancy. Mothers who used marijuana during pregnancy will encounter problems in their child’s development processes. The marijuana greatly affected the child even from the mother’s womb up to birth. A child can take the chemicals from marijuana through breastfeeding.
  • Breathing problems. The smoke of marijuana irritates and burns the lungs of the user. Just like in tobacco smoking, the chemicals from it can be transferred to the lungs that can lead to not just breathing problems, but also lung failure and worse, death.

Not just in the physical aspect, marijuana also has effects on a human’s mentality which includes:

  • Hallucinations
  • Paranoia
  • Poor mental capacity
  • Poor judgment
  • Schizophrenia symptoms are becoming worse

Schizophrenia is a severe illness or mental disorder which includes the symptoms like disorganized thinking, paranoia, and hallucinations.

The use of marijuana is also related to other mental health disorders like anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and many more, especially to teens.

In some states of the US, marijuana or the pot is used to cure some diseases. The 25 states sued the regulators of California allowing pot deliveries even in the states who had banned it before. During the adoption of California to the pot delivery rule, complaints regarding hidden transactions and productions of pots were reported. The 2016 law had given the authority the initiative to ban cannabis and other pot transactions. But some regulators disagreed and stated that pot and cannabis deliveries should be legalized.

The Bureau of cannabis had opened this situation for clarification and said that this case could be made to any jurisdiction within the state.
